We’re looking for volunteers who have a good understanding of social media tools, including Twitter, Facebook and blogging. Advanced technical knowledge, coding etc, is not required.

As we’re looking to recruit a few volunteers we’re flexible about your skills – so you might be a keen blogger but not so good at video or you might be an expert on Twitter but not so great at writing lengthier articles.

You’d be:

• Updating social media platforms

• Monitoring social media for discussions and keywords associated with our work

Responding to online conversations

• Developing our online community of supporters

Measuring and reporting on our online coverage

We’ll offer:

A portfolio of online writing

Experience in the competitive world of social media

• The chance to play a key part in our strategy

The chance to gain experience of social media within the third sector

A full induction will be offered, we cover travel expenses and we’re flexible about the days/times/location you work.

Ultimately we’re looking to build a small team of volunteers who are passionate about social media who would like to get involved with a national charity that supports thousands of children and families across Scotland.

If you’re interested in applying or you just want an informal chat about the role please contact Gay Hickey on 0845 119 20 20 or gay.hickey@relationships-scotland.org.uk

You can view the full opportunity on Volunteer Scotland’s website.

Those of you who have read my bio on here will know that one day a week I’m Digital Media Manager with Relationships Scotland. We’ve got some exciting plans afoot and, hopefully, a new website in the pipeline. To help us truly engage with Scottish families, professionals and policy makers we’re looking to build up a small team of passionate social media volunteers (see more detailed info above).

If you’re interested in this opportunity please contact Gay (details above) or drop me a tweet/DM @ThirdSectorLab

Vote for Relationships Scotland

The charity I’ve recently started working for, Relationships Scotland, has been short-listed in an exciting competition to win a complete overhaul of our website. unXPOSEd (half digital agency/half social mission) will provide £4000 worth of development time to the winner.

We’re the only Scottish charity in the final and you can vote for us by following the link below (it literally takes two seconds to vote):

http://unxposed.net/vote/

Why the heck should I give up 2 seconds of my time you’re possibly asking yourself. Well here’s a little bit about what Relationships Scotland do and why your vote is so important:

Our vision is to make counselling, mediation and family support for Scotland’s people a right not a privilege.

Working in partnership with our network of local services across the country we help make sure Scotland’s children have the best start in life by providing high quality family support which is accessible to all.

When couples ask for the help of a Relationships Scotland counsellor they’re able to make more sense of their problems.  Where relationships do break down, our family mediation services help make sure children are spared unnecessary exposure to their parents’ conflict.  Our network of child contact centres enable both parents to continue to be truly involved in the lives of their children.

A new website would help us truly engage with children and parents, providing a valuable online family support resource and strengthening our role as the leading voice for families in Scotland.

Hopefully that gives you a better idea about why we’d like you to vote for us. There’s a few ways you can support us in this competition:

  1. Vote. Kind of obvious but unless you actually follow the link and vote we’re never going to win. No pressure!
  2. Tweet. Copy n paste this line and tweet away – Vote for @RelScot and help support Scottish families: http://unxposed.net/vote/
  3. Facebook. Tell your Facebook friends about the competition, cut n paste the line below, or hit the Facebook Like button at the bottom of this post - Vote for Relaionship Scotland and help support Scottish families: http://unxposed.net/vote/
  4. Email all your friends, colleagues and contacts. To make things easy you can copy n paste the info below – The charity Relationships Scotland have the chance to win a new website, your vote can help them support even more Scottish families: http://unxposed.net/vote/
  5. Blog. If you have a blog please write a quick post about the vote. Heck, why not cut n paste this whole page to makes things easy.
  6. Harass people in the street. OK this is possibly taking things a little far but the more people you tell the more chance we have of winning!

Wish us luck and if you have an idea about how we can encourage people to vote please leave a comment below or get in touch on twitter - @RelScot

Full steam ahead

I very rarely update my blog with my personal goings on, largely because I don’t want to bore people, but there’s been a few changes to my career recently which I’m excited about so bear with me.

I’ve dramatically reduced my hours as Development Manager with Family Support Partnership Lanarkshire and I’ll be using my newly found spare time to concentrate on two things. First of all I’ll be spending more time strengthening Third Sector Lab; helping more charities, social enterprises and ethical businesses truly engage with their supporters and customers online. My site needs a dramatic overhaul, I haven’t even had the time to add a portfolio! Secondly I’ll be working one day a week in a new role as Digital Media Manager for Relationships Scotland – the organisation formed in the merger between Relate Scotland and Family Mediation Scotland.

Relationships Scotland, like many charities, have yet to foray in to the world of social media but they have a strong belief that they can engage more meaningfully with Scottish families, other non-profits and political decision makers if they fully embrace digital media. As I mentioned, I’ll be working one day a week which means my role is more about guiding and enabling existing staff than necessarily getting involved in the hands-on stuff. I’ve put together the first draft of our social media strategy and, I hope, you’ll see some exciting stuff coming out of Relationship Scotland in the next few months.

If you’re on twitter do say hello.
